Statement

I have submitted a selection of work that best represents me as a designer and my personal style. I have included examples of a variety of different genres within art and design, including; life drawing, 2D design, combined media and illustration.
Currently, I am studying an Art and Design Foundation Diploma to further develop my skills. This course has allowed me to experiment with a range of new media and to explore new methodologies and develop original ideas in 2 and 3 dimensions. I have begun a programme of life drawing to expand my drawing skills and I am experimenting with a diverse approach to visual imaging. The Foundation course has made me open my eyes to new ideas and the potential within Art and Design. I enjoy working experimentation's with traditional and unconventional materials to find inventive solutions.
Studying a degree in Fashion Design at your university will give me the relevant skills needed to progress on to be a successful and confident designer in the future. I am particularly interested in learning new practical skills that you offer in your intensive workshops as I am always willing to experiment with new techniques and expand my knowledge of design and making.

Another passion of mine is travel. This summer I went to Kenya for 6 weeks to take part in a volunteer project within a small community. We spent time building, teaching and farming. As well as being an amazing experience, I feel it helped me gain confidence and responsibility working as a valued member of a diverse team. I have gained good organisation skills through coordinating a range of fund raising events, including an event for 400 college students, a 24 hour famine and a week's sponsored silence. Independently I have organised a range of work experience placements to gain as much knowledge and experience in the industry as possible. In October I worked as a volunteer at the MYFDA fashion awards in Birmingham as a stylist. This was an invaluable experience and allowed me to work closely with up and coming designers, giving me a clear idea of what the job entails. Also, I have independently organised a work experience placement at Harper Bizarre Magazine, London, in the hope that it will give me more knowledge of the written side of the fashion industry.
